Afghans step up as U.S. troops withdraw: Karzai
President Barack Obama unveiled a plan last week to remove 10,000 troops from Afghanistan this year and a total of 33,000 by the end of next summer, a pace some top military officials have said is too aggressive.
Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General David Petraeus, top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, said in congressional testimony that Obama’s drawdown was riskier than they recommended but that they backed the strategy to start winding down the nearly decade-old war.
Mike Rogers, the chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, told CNN’s “State of the Union” program on Sunday the planned drawdown appeared to be politically driven and could allow the Taliban to gain ground.
I don’t think this will go very far. Obama has made many claims of “I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that.” which were followed by either:
1) Not doing it.
or
2) Doing the exact opposite.
Should he prove me wrong? I hope so. I think this is just a “Look what I’m doing, vote for me next year” ploy.
I really don’t like this guy. I always disliked him because he feels he earned the right to be president even though we ALL know the only reason why he was elected was because the media consistently portrayed him as the ‘first black president’ and (no racism intended here) all the black people saw this as a good idea.
Back to the topic at hand…
If he does actually follow through with this, then, good. It’s about time. I was all for going in and whatever back in the day, but, now… We need to pack our shit and get the eff out. We don’t belong there any more and we have bigger fish to fry…. closer to home… practically on our doorstep…. Ok, it’s in the house and everyone is starting to notice it.
